It can often feel overwhelming to read the news and follow what’s happening in politics. But, it’s increasingly important to stay vigilant with what’s going on in your neck in woods. Below are three ideas to get in touch with local politics in your area.

  1. Read the local news

This is a tough one for many people because they would rather pay attention to news on a national level. But, the decisions made on a local level will affect your life much more. The stories may not be as entertaining as a 24-hour news network, but it will be much more relevant to your everyday life.

2. Attend a city council meeting

Nothing will help you realize that local politics directly affects your life and community more than attending a city council meeting in your area. These meetings aren’t glamorous. But, it is often surprising how many decisions are made by the local city council, often with very few attendees and oversight.

3. Join your county party

This is a great way to stay up-to-date on local politics and a great place to get started if someone wants to run for local office. There are also lots of great opportunities to network and get to know the business leaders in your area. By joining your county party in Utah, you get voting opportunities that others don't, like at convention as a delegate.

At the end of the day, what’s happening in your neighborhood, city, and county will impact your day to day life more than anything.
