Planning A Trip? Here’s What You Should ‘Pack’
by MADELINE FERGUSON
Are you interested in taking a psychedelic trip? Maybe you already have and are just planning your next adventure?
Whether you plan to take LSD, mushrooms or something else and no matter what your experience level is, here are a few things that might make your experience more enjoyable.
Keep in mind not all of these things are necessary or will appeal to everyone. Take what you want and leave what you don’t.
First thing you must have before your trip is free time. Now, this might seem obvious but it is so important to set aside an entire day or two where nothing is expected of you and you have nowhere you need to be and no one you need to answer to. Knowing you have time to feel and experience all of the moments in your trip will help you be present and worry free.
This next one can be very dependant on your situation and what you are looking to get out the experience and that is - a friend. Now, if you wanted to safely experiment with psychdaelics alone, that is totally fine but having a community to integrate your experiences with can be incredibly helpful. If you plan to go anywhere or do anything in public, it can also be helpful to have a sober friend around to help you out. Having a psychedelic experience with a friend or partner can be an amazing bonding experience.

With that, a pair of noise cancelling headphones can also come in handy if you need some time to drop in and process what you are feeling with more isolation. They can also be used to play some music that brings you comfort. I highly recommend listening to an artist called John Hopkins, who specializes in healing, psychadelic beats.
It can be really nice to have things around that create different sensory experiences during a trip. Things like colored and moving lights are favorites of many people. Setting the mood with lighting is important. You could also stimulate different senses with smells (think incense or essential oils) or with textures to touch like a nice blanket or cool towel. A speaker can also help bring the sensory experience of hearing to everyone in your group, if you are in one.
And lastly, it is so important to take care of body so that you remain comfortable during the experience. Having water and healthy snacks on hand will make you grateful for your prior planning during the experience. Things like fresh fruit, dried fruit, granola bars and electrolyte drink packets have been some favorites on folks going on their adventures. Also - make sure you have layers to keep yourself warm if you get chilly and so that you can take things off if you get too hot, it can be hard to ignore uncomfortable body sensations when taking psychedelics.
Hope this helps, happy packing!
