Salt Lake’s Seasonal Bar Changes Theme Just In Time For Warmer Weather

A few months ago we told you about ACME, a seasonally themed bar owned by the same folks who brought Water Witch to Salt Lakers. When that article was published (you can read it here), the bar was Christmas themed and quite adorable.

During the Christmas era of the bar, the cocktails were the star of the show, and that still stands with the new tropical theme - Suckerfish

“Fresh off of our wildly successful SEASON’S DRINKING Holiday Bar activation, Acme Bar Co is Proud to present the SUCKERFISH POP UP! Featuring live greenery, historic sea creature wall art and amazing, mellow vibes, SUCKERFISH is sure to please your palate. Our new drink menu is fantastic and will rotate frequently and our new food offerings are a mélange of exotic bar bites from the mind of chef David Chon of NOHM,” the bar describes itself online.

Suckerfish is located where Campfire Lounge used to be on 2100 South in the Sugarhouse neighborhood. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but it might be a few more weeks until you can comfortably enjoy the patio.

The menu is small but mighty. The cocktails are works of art and they also serve a curated selection of food.

On the drink menu, you’ll find gin, rum and whiskey-based concoctions with varieties of tropical fruit juices and the drinks are garnished with flowers and pineapple leaves to really make you feel like you’re on an island in August.

I highly recommend a drink called The Saturn. It is a gin and passionfruit-based concoction that is light, fruity and a little tart. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, order the fog cutter, it’s tart and delicious with a strong cognac flavor if you’re into that sort of thing. And what would a tropical bar be without a classic strawberry daiquiri? Don’t worry, they have that too and you can make it a Miami Vice if you’re feeling extra sweet.

The food has an updated island vibe, featuring things like Jamaican Curry Fries (delicious) and the classic fish and chips with some lotus root chips to make it feel a little more adventurous.

Both the food and cocktails were impressive, but another essential part of a night out is the vibe and Suckerfish knocks it out of the park here most notably with the wall art.

All over the bar you’ll find classic seafarer art of fish, boats and other creatures in the classic black-and-white ink style. On top of the eye-catching art, the place is filled with live plants that make the space feel fresh and tropical.

The bartenders at Suckerfish also deserve a shout-out for being incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. They were quick to describe the drinks and make expert recommendations all with bright smiles.

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere… right?
