Mormon Psychedelic Symposium

Mormons of all stripes—active and lapsed—are finding their way to psychedelics. For the second time, they will gather at the Mormon Psychedelic Symposium (MoMo Psy Sy), to discuss moving beyond the faith’s programming with the help of psychedelics.

According to event organizers, Mormonism’s uniformity in messaging and implementation leads to common conditioning and programming. Those commonalities, in turn, often create commonalities in the deprogramming process that psychedelics facilitate among Mormons. Organizers note that serious programming requires serious deprogramming.

Organizers point out that religious programming doesn’t automatically change when someone stops going to church. They point out that unhealthy, entrenched programming remains regarding authority, control, worship, sex, sexism, and patriarchy. Exploration of this programming can go deeper in an environment where everyone has been immersed in Mormonism’s unique culture.

Event organizers stress that active members of the faith are welcome. They note, however, that a premise of MoMo Psy Sy is that Mormon dogma and hierarchy cause harm. That harm and its religious origins will be directly addressed at the conference. Along with discussing somber psychedelic ceremonies, organizers also note that some presenters will discuss how laughter and connection also can be worship and promote healing.

MoMo Psy Sy panels will discuss self-love, navigating psychedelics and spirituality, addressing patriarchy, religious trauma, and healing. The April 22 event is free on Zoom and lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Mtn). An informal gathering will also be held the evening of April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mountain West Cider. Sponsors are The Divine Assembly, Mormons on Mushrooms, Summer Revival, and The Utah Bee. For more details, click HERE.
