Tea Zaanti: A Place For EVERYONE

Tucked into the adorable Sugar House neighborhood in Salt Lake City, you’ll find Utah’s only tea & wine establishment: Tea Zaanti.
Located on 1100 East, Tea Zaanti sits in an old home serving tea, wine and tea/wine cocktails. The owners of the shop, Becky and Scott Lyttle, wanted to create a place where everyone could come, order something special and enjoy some time with loved ones.
Serving both tea, wine and a selection of food items means there is something for everyone, even those who choose not to partake in alcohol.
Tea Zaanti started in a small house nearby the current location, but due to Utah laws not allowing businesses to serve alcohol within a certain distance from schools, churches, etc, Lyttle decided to relocate to a bigger and better space where they could begin the process of serving wine.
“Wine was important for us, I had lived in Utah for over 20 years and was always looking for that place where you could take a group of people to go out for a drink, however you define a drink. I worked with a lot of co-workers who didn’t drink alcohol … there’s not a great place to be able to go and have a glass of wine and you can have… coke? That just didn’t feel right,” she explained her idea.
Tea Zaanti has something special for everyone. The selection of teas is massive, from greens to blacks and herbal, they are sure to have something you’ll love. The selection of wine is also special, featuring bottles from black-owned businesses each month (part of the proceeds on these bottles are donated to the George Floyd Memorial Fund). But the fusion wine/tea cocktails, are show-stopping.

“With over 80 varieties of tea there is always something special to try, you get to branch out from the norm. You can have it your way,” Lyttle said, “Then you combine that with a unique selection of wine. Tea and wine have a lot of similar characteristics … how they taste is all about where they are grown, the climates they are grown in and how they are processed.”
Currently, Tea Zaanti holds a restaurant license, so the only alcoholic beverages they serve are beer and wine.
If you visit in the winter, you can try a tea mulled wine featuring a spiced tea with wine and honey. They also make different tea sangrias but are most known for tea-mosas, your choice of iced tea mixed with your choice of bubbly.
To go along with the tea-mosas, they host a drag brunch once a month. Check them out online and on social media for more information on that.
“If there’s a place where you can bring people, their kids can come and they aren’t sitting in a bar. Or I have a lot of friends who live a sober lifestyle, it’s a nice way to meet in the middle and make both parties feel comfortable,” Lyttle said of the community-focused environment she created at Tea Zaanti.
“If you have a place where people feel comfortable, people will open up and that’s where great conversation happens,” she beautifully concluded.
