Founder Of Natural Law Apothacary Brings Plant Medicines From Around The World To Utah

Health and medicine look different for everyone. Marinda Bowen, owner of Natural Law Apothecary in Salt Lake City understands that and wants to help people find healing in new ways.
“I would say I believe in my grandmother’s medicine and, therefore, I believe in every grandmother’s medicine,” Bowen proudly said. Her grandmother grew up a homesteader and used everything from their earth to heal.
Natural Law Apothecary boasts “old medicine for the new age.” The shop carries wild-harvested herbs, resins, burnable items, tinctures and so much more, bringing plant medicine from around the world to Utah.
“In our space you will find people dedicated to providing a warm, personal, supportive experience during your search for herbal preparations. With education being one of our pillars of commitment, we bring medicine from ancient cultures to our modern world for our collective learning, healing and growth.”
The space includes plant medicines and healers and other healing modalities as well. They have a space for yoga and meditation groups, a depravation chamber and bodywork practitioners. The staff is well-studied and can create custom plant blends for customers.
Bowen started becoming interested in holistic healing over western medicine when she worked as an oncology nurse. But her upbringing showed the power natural medicines can have.
“I was brought up with a mother who loved teas and herbs,” she said. “She always felt very confident in her own ability to care for us and, I guess, mistrustful of physicians. She was always making up her own recipes called Sweet & Bitters.”
While working as an oncology nurse, assisting patients in chemotherapy treatment, Bowen noticed the food they were offering sick patients was not up to par.
“While I was there I saw a dissonance,” she said. Bowen described taking patients to the edge of their lives and promising to bring them back with medical intervention, all the while providing over-processed and preserved meals that were likely causing more harm.
“I just thought there has to be a better way to nourish people,” she said.

And now, she helps nourish patients with plants from around the world.
At first, Bowen and her husband grew a lot of their own herbs before bringing in friends and neighbors from all over the country to help. Natural Law Apothecary brings herbs and plants from all over the world.
“We have amanita that we bring in from Prague and Frankenscense that we bring in from Africa, and we have Dragon’s Blood that we bring in from the Island of Socotra,” she said, giving a peek into what you might find in the shop.
Also in the shop, you’ll find bodywork practitioners. Bowen described her passion for the healing powers of the human connection and touch.
“Bodywork offers circulation and repair and restoration, where many other things have failed. I do my bodywork from a nursing perspective,” she described.
Natural Law Apothacary has many different types of practitioners. From acupuncture to reiki, you may find many different perspectives of healing to try out.
Bowen wants to know, “What is your grandmother’s medicine?”
